  13. Sorry if this is off-target for this group, but I don't know where else to
  14. ask this.

  16. I was trying to install FinalWriter the other day, and - using the
  17. standard Commodore install program - it decided entirely of its own accord
  18. to attempt installation directly to my VideoB: drive. It *never* asked me
  19. where to do the install, just went ahead and began installing.

  21. I quickly aborted the install and double-clicked the VideoB: icon, which
  22. opened to show that a few files had indeed been written there. I
  23. single-clicked them all and used the Workbench's DELETE command, confirmed
  24. my desire to delete the selected items, and that was that.

  26. When next I opened that drive, to be sure I had gotten all the offending
  27. files, the status at the top of the window said the drive was 0% full,
  28. with the expected 2 gigs free. My LightWave anims, all I currently had on
  29. the drive, were gone. Rebooting, running the Flyer, and AmiBack Tools all
  30. failed to produce the missing several animations. It is as though the
  31. entire drive had been wiped clean.

  33. How did this happen? AmiBack Tools doesn't even recognize the disk as
  34. having anything on it to restore, which can either be beacuse there
  35. *isn't* anything to restore or the Flyer writes (and even formats?) the
  36. drive in a non-standard way.

  38. I believe, based on past experience, that trying to call NewTek about this
  39. will only lead to a long game of phone tag, so I am posting here hoping
  40. someone else has an understanding of this problem and its possible
  41. solution(s). I'm reluctant to write to the drive in case I still have a
  42. chance to salvage my hard work. If not, I guess I can only re-format (just
  43. in case) and re-render (ugh).

  45. Anyone have any ideas? Please e-mail me at videot@tezcat.com if you can
  46. offer any suggestions. Perhaps there's a NewTek-blessed HD uitility
  47. program which can undelete these files... I lost about a dozen animations
  48. (which *had* been backed up onto another drive, which then promptly
  49. suffered hardware failure and had to be replaced).   >:|
